I have an extra Macbook Air with 256GB that I don't use, and my brother's main machine is a 13" retina MBP with 128GB. I'd like to swap the two SSDs so he can have more storage.

Is this possible? Are there any compatibility issues?

What year are the models? Probably depends on that since 2012 & 2013 they changed the connectors if I'm not mistaken. 2010 - 2011 are compatible I believe. Of course, someone more knowledgeable correct me if I'm wrong.

Good point.

The MBA is 2011 and the MBP is 2012.

I wouldn't risk it but you could always do the eyeball test and have your SSD on top of your Bro's to compare. I still wouldn't risk it though. I would google for more info though.

I recently did some digging hence the info I got because I was looking to upgrade my mid 2012 MBA 128GB SSD with something bigger. Really didn't want to go with OWC so I searched via ebay. I found a bunch of SSD's for 2013 and so I researched to find out if they would fit or not. Which they don't since 2013 got new connectors. And found out 2010-2011 are the same and won't work with 2012.
