I have a mid 2010 MBP. It's the 2.66 GHz, 4GB memory, 13 inch.

I plan to get the 13 inch retina display with 2.44 GHz and 4GB memory.

I'm curious if the downgrade in GHz will render the upgrade useless given my current model, or no ?

Thanks!

It isn't all about the clock speed. The new rMBP will be faster than what you have now. But I'd definitely go with 8GB RAM, as you can't upgrade it later on like you can on your current model.

The only reason I was considering it is because of the $200 discount on the base model from best buy on friday.

In the same vein as PDFierro's response, ghz comparison on paper isn't accurate. Haswell is more efficient at what it does, allowing more "work" done by the CPU with "less ghz".

His recommendation on ram is spot on...but if you're getting a deal you wouldn't afford otherwise maybe it's worth the plunge?
