I got a new Apple TV 4K recently and I like the new Siri remote design with the white circle so you know which way you're holding it. It makes it a lot less necessary to have a case on it, and I like the way it feels without a case, which I'd been using on my old one for years now.

That said, when the Siri remote first came out there were reports of them cracking even with mild falls onto a floor; has this issue been corrected or is the newer version still fragile? I'd rather not end up having to buy an expensive new one if I accidentally push it off my armrest.

It's still glass, so don't drop it.

For what it's worth, I've had mine for about 3 years now, have dropped it on the wood floor on occasion (but not with any great regularity) and it has not broken. I wouldn't advocate dropping it on purpose, and maybe I've been lucky, but I don't think it's nearly the delicate flower that some people make it out to be. (I've also never broken an iPhone screen and I've been a user since 2008)

Exactly. As long as you don't drop the remote, you'll be fine. I've had my 4K ATV for a couple years now and the remote has held up great. It's been dropped on carpet a few times, but works flawlessly. We just have to keep it out of view of our infant son since he's taken a liking to the ATV remote in our bedroom.

I use a case on my remote. It makes it so much easier to hold. And it has saved the remote several times from drops.

Yep, mine smashed after dropping all of 18” to a wooden floor. Worst thing is that they charge $89 to replace the remote which is 40% the cost of a new Apple TV at $249 (that’s Australian dollars).

I’ve had 3 iterations of the remote and have never had an issue with it being fragile or loss. I’ve also had no issues of telling which way is up on it either though.

All of mine have never had any issues or breakage. But I use the virtual remote from my Control Centre 99% of the time and just keep my remote on the shelf.
