Is the Passkey implementation in ios 17 broken?

Hi all

I was using keychain passkey with ios 16 very successfully - mostly for Google.com accounts but it worked with others too.
I just installed the RC of ios 17 and it seems the passkey access is broken, instead of logging in directly from the same device my iphone now shows a qr code that I have to load using a secondary ios device. This wasn't the case before.

Any ideas?
I can't find anything online..
