I think it is the ugliest Apple app icon. Actually, I think it's the only Apple app icon that looks terrible. Am I the only one?

OH MY GOD HOW IS THIS EVEN A CONCERN?? Does this really bother you? There's much more significant things to worry about in life than the picture of A APP ICON.

Change it from purple to dark blue, and I'm totally fine with it.
My hunch, though, is that they want it to be purple for all the women that buy iDevices.
 
I'd be fine with the icon if they would fix the performance issues. Just navigating around within the podcast list often results in pauses, even on the iPhone 5.

Also this app seems to have a problem with excess data usage while streaming podcasts. I once clocked it using over 200mb of data when I streamed an episode that couldn't have been more than 40mb total to download. It seems to do much better if you download the episode first and then listen to it.

Dark blue would definitely be better.

Yeah, I like the app itself also. Now that they finally fixed it.
 
To be honest I love the app and I despise the icon.

I hate the color purple and I can't stand the icon.

The amount of wasted space is ridiculous on this app so Im really hoping Forstall takes it with him when he finally leaves.

Apparently, it does make a difference to Apple! This was a deliberate design choice they made!

I don't like it, but I can choose to live with it. Most men would probably say the same thing, so chances are likely that Apple wasn't thinking about men when they chose to create a purple icon.

They probably were thinking about pleasing most women, knowing that most men now will passively "live with it." Most other companies in the world have been and still are actively doing the same thing, so my assumption seems quite likely.

I doubt this was a totally random decision from a famous design company.

I blame Forstall!

I really don't think that it would displease most men or please most woman - I would bet that no one cares except 3 nitpickers on MacRumors ;)
 
To me, it's not so much that the icon is ugly, but rather that it's very generic-looking.
