Is the read/write speed on the 256gb faster or slower then the512gb SSD on RetinaMac?

I don't know how fast the 256GB version is, but I can tell you the 512GB version in my early-2013 15" rMBP does just under 500MB/sec read and write. I'd be surprised if the 256GB version were much, if any, different.

Generally bigger SSDs will be somewhat faster with writes. I think reads will be about the same.

so if i wanted to upgrade from 256 to 512, focusing on SPEED, prob not worth the extra 300?

Not at all worth it for speed.

generally with ssd manufacturers, once you hit 256 the bigger ones are about the same speed.
