Is the Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable the right one for Target Display Mode?

Hello,

I just got a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable to use Target Display Mode with my MacBook Pro and iMac 27". Both are the 2011 models with Thunderbolt.
This does not seem to work and it seems that I have bought the wrong cable and instead I should have bought the Apple Thunderbolt cable.

Before I waste more money, can anyone confirm theat the Apple Thunderbolt cable will allow me to use my iMac as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? Even when using Windows on the MacBook Pro? This is really the main reason for me to use Target Display Mode. I don't want to install Windows on both of my machines but I really need it for my study.

I just read the description. Apple seems to confirm this themselves

Apple Thunderbolt cable can also be used for Target Disk Mode between two Macs that support Thunderbolt, or to use a new iMac as a display for a MacBook Pro equipped with Thunderbolt.

Yes, to use TDM on the 2011 iMac you need a Thunderbolt cable and another Mac that has a Thunderbolt port (2011+ Mini, MBP, iMac)
