Is the VZW carrier update safe for tethered JB?

Hi all!

My iphone has the tethered jailbreak, and I do not want to have to re-jb it or anything like that.

I was wondering, when you do the carrier update, will the phone want to restart? If so, I am just going to avoid it until IOS5!
