Is the wireless charging based on a standard?

I know nothing about wireless charging. Is apple using the same standard used by androids? Will the X charge using any third party wireless charger including those built into cars?

Yes, the new phones are using the Qi standard so third party Qi wireless pads are ok.

This might be the biggest surprise of the keynote, for me - Apple adopting a common standard wireless charging technology and actually promoting 3rd party accessories
