HP has released new servers based on the new Quad-Core Intel Xeon 7300 processor series, targeted at customers running data-intensive business applications such as databases, business intelligence, ERP, and large mail and messaging platforms in virtualized environments.

And Apple releases.....

Are these the new Harpertown Xeon processors? I'm not up with the Xeon naming scheme.

The 73xx series are the multi processor chips, Tigerton. There is a distinction between dual processor capable chips and multi processor, in this case four sockets.

They were released fairly recently and are much more expensive than their DP counterparts. These are based on the Clovertown dies, which are based on the 65nm Core 2 Duo die.

We are expecting the 54xx series, or Harpertown to make its way into the next Mac Pro. Which will be based on the 45nm Penryn die.

Confusing, but take a look at the Wikipedia Xeon article, it is quite good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon

I believe Harpertown comes in November.

Don't worry, I'm clueless on this Xeon crap too.

Latest rumor....yawn, for the 5th different thread...

Intel plans to release the first 45nm desktop CPU, the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 on November 11, according to sources at motherboard makers.

The quad-core CPU will offer a frequency of 3.0GHz with 1333MHz FSB and 12MB L2 cache. As is typical for products in the Extreme series, pricing for the CPU will be set at US$999 in 1000-unit tray quantities.

In an update to previous reports, three 45nm quad-core CPUs (Yorkfield) and another three 45nm dual-core CPUs (Wolfdale) for desktops will be launched in January next year, noted the sources.

If you want to come up with a theory as to why the Mac Pro will be using Desktop processors, be my guest. Otherwise please stop posting garbage that is completely unrelated. Trust me, it is no coincidence that arn hasn't posted your "rumor."

You have been debunked multiple times.
