Is there a benefit to registering software like iWork?

I just got iWork 09, but it asks to me to register the product with Apple. What's the benefit of doing this? Is there any harm in not registering the product? Thanks

Ther is no harm in not registering although why not apple won't bother you and for example Microsoft office requires you to register so that a serial is tied to 1 computer

Some software vendors won't provide you with support unless you register their software.

I usually never register any of my software but when i got Parallels Desktop 5, it asked to be registered in order for me to receive any support.

I think it's to do with cutting down on piracy, although I'm not that sure really
