Is There a Better Chatting application I can use for communicating with Aim friends?

When i used aim for my mac It would constantly shut off during mid conversation, so i deleted it. It became such a hassle constantly shutting off all the TIME.

So is there another application i can use for communicating with aim friends?

Either iChat which is included on your mac, or Adium (which lets you use aim, .mac, google, yahoo, msn all at once)

Who uses the Official AIM client on Mac?

It's iChat or AdiumX my friend.

If a program keep shutting off your Mac, then that's a particular case there. Is the AIM (presumebly you meant AIM software from AIM.com) broken? Or is that a system error? You might want to look into that as well.

iChat works just like the official AIM client. Is there something special you're looking for?

...iChat is an AIM client. It's just a program, it connects to AIM using your AIM screen name just like any other AIm client.

iChat uses the regular AIM protocol, its just Apples face on the interface, same with Adium, but that one is a third party.

you can chat with anyone who uses AIM with iChat or Adium (adium can't do voice/video yet, if ever)

just open up iChat and set it for AIM and log on.

It's pretty straightforward. I believe there is a setup assistant when you first open iChat for setting up your screenname/accounts. Just use your AIM one. Then use the little plus at the bottom of the buddy list window to add your buddies. If you use Address Book (that came with your mac) to keep track of people AIM screennames, I think it will automatically add the people you have in your address book to your buddy lists.

FWIW...I use Adium because it allows you to be signed on under multiple screennames under multiple services...then I switch to iChat for video/audio chats.

How can I log in AIM because it is shaded and not clickable
or how can i log in under a different name?

In IChat, go to File->Preferences

Click on Accounts

Click the + symbol to add a new account

Select Account type "AIM account"

Enter your details

Done
