http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002OG6OI/ref=pd_sxp_elt_l1/102-8792927-6036949

right, so amazon.com has the first revision imac g5 17inch (1.8ghz) for 1099.xx with a 100 dollar mail in rebate...

or for 100 less you can get the 1.6ghz version, but that doesn't have a rebate offer..

either way you'll get less ram and a slightly less nice video card with these older ones...but I'm not sure if that matters much to you :)

cheers,
justin

edit. correction : the 1.6 ghz also has the 100 dollar rebate meaning it's only 900 + tax (if applicable)

I don't care about the RAM because I can upgrade that by myself. Do you think the video card will make a huge difference?

Consider a refurb. Apple Store special deals.

iMac G5 1.6GHz/ 256MB/ 80GB/ Combo/ 56K/ 17-inch - Apple Certified
Original price: $1,299.00
Your price: $899.00

iMac G5 1.8GHz/ 256MB/ 80GB/ SuperDrive/ 56K/ 17-inch - Apple Certified
Original price: $1,499.00
Your price: $999.00

I've bought two refurbs (a powermac and an ibook), and they've both been perfect.

If you want to use the imac to play newer games...then yes it would. If you're just going to be using it for web surfing and other normal things I think the 5200 would be a fine video card.

cheers,
justin

How long will you wait?

I'm sure in 1-2 months Apple will sell a refurbished current generation iMac. IMO the 128MB video card is a HUGE bonus because you can't upgrade it.

I doubt you'll get a second revision iMac for $1000 until the next revision. For the budget conscious, those first version iMac G5s are pretty good deals.

Are you a student? With the EDU discount the new bottom of the line one is $1200. Sell your kneecaps for the extra $200?

Or your belly button. Mine has never done anything for me. Well, nourish me and give me life in the womb, but since then, what has it done for me? ;)

Is there a reason you are specific to new? You *might* be able to find a refurb for that price if you shop for a while...

Sorry guys... I like my belly button and my knee caps. Maybe I'll just wait until the new PowerBooks because then my mom would probably help me out with the payment.

Heck, by the time new (G5) PowerBooks arrive, you'll be able to dip into your 401(k)! :D
