I just transferred my existing AT&T 3G service and was wondering if there is a dedicated LTE plan for the tablet.

Though my area is HSPA+ enabled, the data speeds are no better than my 4S.

DL 0.65 UL 0.67 -79ms
DL 0.24 UL 1.24 -71ms
DL 0.20 UL 0.48 -95ms

4 bars reception too..

Okay, so my existing ipad 1 3G plan will automatically switch to 4G / LTE right?

My current speeds are slower than the ipad 1.

Thank God I also purchased the VZ to test out too.

No, none of the carriers have dedicated LTE, it's delivered throughout the same cellular infrastructure as 3G. As soon as it's in your area you automatically receive it. Phones & devices not equipped simply remain on 3G.

LTE is very strong in my area as of three months ago. My new iPad is much faster than I expected.

I'm getting between .15 to .19mbs but getting about 1mbs up. It is dog slow. slower than 2g. I realize in my area it's probably hspa+ and not LTE but this is crazy sloooooooow.

I'm at least 6 miles from the nearest AT&T tower and there is HSPA+ in my area. No LTE within 50 miles. My best speeds are much better than what you gave.

Using the iPad near a north facing window: 1.1 down, 1.7 up. Near an east facing window 4.9 down, 1.7 up. The nearest tower is obviously east of me.

Try moving around your house and see what kinds of speeds you get in various locations.

This is why you should have gotten Verizon. That and the fact that ATT works on the Verizon model as well.

I have one bar of VZ LTE and I managed to pull 9MB DL but only 0.26 UL

AT&T did provision my legacy ipad postpaid plan to LTE but the speeds are still the same and of course no LTE.

Decision decisions. Do I wait for AT&T to upgrade to LTE in about year or so or do I use so so VZ LTE in my area, that will probably reach me in a month or so, but deal with slow EVDO in non-LTE areas.

Granted, I am sure if I try the AT&T speedtest at 3am, it will be 6MB+.

My speeds are considerably better with my new iPad on HSPA+ vs my iPad 1 3G that didn't support HSPA+. I've posted it here. Over 2X faster download, and 5X faster upload.

I would advise going with Verizon for now because they have more coverage, and when AT&T built up their network, probably 2013... the "Newer" iPad will probably be out, then I'd switch depending on situation.

And unless you live in a AT&T LTE covered area, you should probably go with Verizon LTE in most cases because they have much more coverage. Or unless where you live have no LTE from both companies, go with AT&T for HSPA+/Faux 4G.

Wow, rough speeds there. I'm in Phoenix and used a Tucson server for Speedtest app and got 5079kbps down and 1807 up.

Definitely not the 12 - 17k that people were talking about in reviews, but FAR better than the old 3G.
