Is there a difference between Mac OS X version 10.5 for the ibook G4 (PPC), and for the Mac Books (Intel Chip) ???

I don't think so. Not feature-wise but performance most likely differs.

The install DVD should work fine on both - assuming that its a version bought on its own and not bundled with the laptop - as the DVD OS that gets shipped with the laptop on purchase is tied down to the particular laptop model. It is possible however to create a disk image of the install DVD and modify the contents so that it isnt system specific.
