hi there;

hope this is isn't a stupid question - i've tried to scour through the apple site but as a tech dope i don't know what the terminology is.

Just wanted to ask if there is a brightness/resolution/clarity difference between these two model?

many thanks!

All 13 inch MBP's run at 1280x800 and all 15 inch MBP's run at 1440x900. Other than the resolution difference, the panels are the same in terms of color gamut, contrast and brightness.

I've read somewhere that the 13" display isn't really capable of displaying 'millions of colors' because it's a lower 'bit' display than the 15" and 17".

Or was this with the Aluminium Macbook only?

None of the apples MacBook displays are capable of millions of colors without using dithering. All three models use consumer grade tn panels which can only display 250,000+ colors. None use pro grade displays.

Yes, when the 13 inch was still a non 'pro' machine, it used a less capable panel than the 15 and 17 inch MBP. Now that all three sizes are under the 'pro' line, they use similar panels.

Hmm... does any company use pro grade displays? (curious)

Small business convertible tablets like the x210t and mobile workstations like the w510 and t510 have them as options. There are a handful of others than my examples.
And the ipad.
