iPod is there a difference in the new ipod?

I'm speaking specifically about the 30GB model. Besides brighter screen and cheaper, what else is new?
 
well, the software can be used for old ipods also.

and the old ipods have dropped in price also accordingly.

so from what I can see, the only change is the brighter screen.
 
this sucks i am so dissapointed that they did not come out with the real video ipod especially since their competitors like with the zen have one.

there is only longer battery life for the 80GB model.

the 30GB model is still 14 hours.

Um, it plays 640 X 480 Mpeg4 on a brighter new screen. It IS a video ipod, and a damn good one too.

Well, sort of. The total battery life is still 14 hours -- for music. The video life is 3.5, up from 2. And I think the photo slideshow is up maybe an hour from the original 5G 30GB. It's probably a more power efficient although still brighter backlight for the display; it's likely the same battery.

I'm 90% sure they could play 640x480 MPEG4, but only 320x240 H.264... I have a nano, though, so what do I know?

Dunno why they still call out the 320x240. Will this be supported on the 5G?!?

If internal hardware is the same they will probably just make the firmware for original 5G and new 5G the same, supporting all the new features. Apple is still calling them the same generation.

Ah, yes, that's right... was it 480*480 for h264 or MPEG4? I remember that you should do higher quality on the MPEG4 files, but don't recall the specifics.
 
has the new firmware been released yet? I wanna try the spotlight feature.

I hope the firmware update will take care of this. Otherwise it'll be a mess when the 5G iPods can no longer play iTMS TV Shows.

Only MPEG-4 was 480x480 2.5 Mbps, H.264 was 320x240, just like the middle case now.

no idea about video playback as i don't have any video in that format. got the update through iTunes. Gapless appears to work on a few albums but not on others... weird.... and dissapointing.

I'm pretty sure it will be updated soon enough. the new ipods are still 5G and still called "iPod."

no search.... but found brightness controls

seems you have to let the ipod be indexed by itunes to get gapless playback to work... only noticed this on the second ipod
 
is there a chance that the search function is exclusive to the new ipods?
