hi, I am trying to back up my 2TB HD (27" iMac Quad i7) to an external 2 TB hard disk.

it is taking an eternity... really.

time machine took 36 hours and only did 1TB. of data (no program or other files)

Carbon Copy Cloner so far has taken over 25 hours and not even done 900 GB yet... (though it is making a bootable copy of everything even system and apps.)

anyone out there know of a faster method...

regards, Sandy

Software can only do so much. The connection will make a difference though. Firewire 800 and esata are the faster options, but Macs don't generally use esata for external drives so firewire would be your fastest bet. The only other option would be gigabit ethernet if your network is using it.

I'm assuming that this is your first backup of this type. Bear in mind that, for future backups, CCC should only backup those files that have been added or modified, which takes much less time (assuming you've set the appropriate settings within CCC).
