Is There a Free Program Like Microsoft Word?

I need something to write a paper with on my MBP. I did not order or get Microsoft Word yet. I need a free program to use until I get Microsoft Word. Can you make TextEdit like a word document? I need some help. Thanks.

OpenOffice or NeoOffice.

TextEdit is just a basic word processor. You can do a little with it, but it hasn't near the advanced features of Word.

If you need something between now and when you get Word, try what miles01110 suggested or get Pages for $20 which is compatible with Word.

Liberoffice is another good free choice. They just recently released a new version that's supposed to be pretty good.

Definitely use LibreOffice over OpenOffice.

OpenOffice is really dead now.
