is there a keyboard button I can press instead of the mouse pad 'press down'?

I hate pressing the mouse pad (forgot the name of it) for a click action, is there a keyboard alternative to a click?

i.e. I can use the mouse area to move the cursor, but for the actual 'click' action I can press a keyboard button?

Try System Preferences\trackpad\select tap to click
