So I got my replacement unibody M.B.P from apple today, and I have come to the conclusion there is no such thing as a perfect Unibody! Every one I have seen so far had a flaw, some minor and ignorable and others not so much!

I managed to get a replacement due to Graphic Card, Top Case and Logic Board problems. I was delighted when they agreed to replace my base model 2.4/2x1gb/250/SD/256VRAM and I was even more delighted when I was told that the M.B.P`s have recieved a speed bump as of late and I would recieve a new bumped up M.B.P???? That was not the case, I didnt think that the base model got a bump but it says "new" next to it on the Apple Store page? If it did get an update does anyone know what it was, cos the specs on my new m.b.p are exactly the same as my old?

My new m.b.p has some issues with the trackpad to start and something Im very worried about is when the screen dims after you leave it idle for a few moments there is a very noticeable flicker on the screen as if its going from bright to dim very erracticly. Does anyone know what this could be, I hope Im not going to have problems with this one too! Im falling behind with college already!!

a lot of user's have had the screen flicker problem. if you take it back they will replace it. the 2.4ghz has not gotten a bump in speed. the 2.53 went to 2.66 and the option of 2.8 got bumped to 2.93. as for the "new" next to the pro's on the apple store website its probably they just havent taken it down yet.

The flicker is obviously something I should be worried about then! I literally only got my replacement this morning, there couldnt be something wrong with this one too? The flickering is not a permanent thing. Its very much so intermittened. It seems to only come on when the screen dims, but it is very noticeable? Can I live with it? I had to change the hard drives between my old and new so i effectively have two macbooks now, and have to send my old one back, Having to send them both back is going to be a pain in the ass!! GOD DAMMIT APPLE!!!!

The flickering problem is intermittent and for me has only been noticeable at low brightness levels as well. I wouldn't live with it if I were you.

Although, if you live near an Apple store I would try and do an exchange there. Definitely the quickest way. Get elevated to a product specialist and they will call the manager and take care of everything.

Get a white macbook with the nvidia graphics and save your self a good few hundred $£$...+ it's far from a Rev A Apple machine !

I got a 2.66 a couple days ago, but this one is flickering too. Called Apple (again) today and spoke to someone who, while very nice, didn't really seem to understand the problem. He seemed to think a combo update and SMC reset (which I told him I have already done on previous models) might fix my problem so that is what I am doing now. I am slightly hopeful that the flickering might not reappear after this though. Would love to keep this one.

There is a couple of threads on the forum if you search them out detailing this exact problem with the unibodys screen flicker.

I'm almost afraid to say it but I may have found a perfect unibody. After two 15" machines, with different issues on both, I swapped for a 17". It's very nice! No issues yet. Well, except for that hard drive head clicking, which I read is a "feature". Never heard it on the others. I'll have to open it up and see what brand it is.

Now I can stop bugging the Apple Store people, who have gone out of their way to help.

I had one...

I had a perfect unibody. I really gave it good look over when I first received it. Perfect screen, perfect build, no graphics issues no imperfections anywhere.

But then a few days after I had it, it developed this weird stain/burn on the back corner lid that wont come off. I still don't know what it is but Apple wants it back (I think fearing its a burn) and is sending a replacement and taking $200 off the order.

I just hope that the replacement is as nice and doesn't have some new issue.

I think it would be easier to get jessica alba's perfect (uni)body than to get one from apple!! I honestly cant believe my luck! The worst part is that there is no apple store in ireland so it takes forever to do a swap!

The flickering has seemed to stop for the moment but I came across an even more unusual problem today! I was plugging in my external hard drive into the firewire port, and a large spark came out and the system shorted out, I then could not reboot from the battery and had to turn it on from the a/c. Now i have a large X inside my battery icon and the message "no batteries available" even though its running off battery now as it sits on my lap! Also when i connect my M.B.P to my hi-fi or any speakers I get a un-bearable buzzing sound! This cannot be good. Im contacting them tomorrow and hopefully round 3 of Me Vs Unibody goes a little better for me! My hope and love for apple is taking a major beating!

Have you done the normal things like take out and put back in the battery?
