Hey all,

Just listening to my PowerMac G5 today and noticed that the hard drive is actually quite loud when in constant use! My iBook's hard disk doesn't make any noise so why should the 3.5" Seagate 160GB (you know the one...)?

Are there any quieter drives on the market? How about the new raptor? I like speed

Cheers,

That could prove a dicey situation for you. RPMs is the major contributor to HD noise. I'd look into Seagate drives with their fluid bearing technology. (you probably already have this drive).

I put my whole setup in an Acousti-Lock, but that may be overkill for you.

Here's to the Crazy Ones

I don't know about other brands, but most Seagate Barracuda drives are very quiet... I have a 250Gb one in an external case and it's nearly silent. The drive in my laptop is a Toshiba, and that's been very quiet as well.

I have the seagate barracuda already.. i don't know, it seems quite loud at times.

How do other drives fair? Anyone changed their drive in their powermac?
