Is there a special way to transfer data between view controllers with arc?

I'm not positive that this is the right place to ask this but, if it isn't please move it.

So for the past 48 hours or so I've been trying to figure out how to pass data from view controller to view controller. I just realized that I have arc on. So Is there a special way you need to do it if you have arc?
