It can be a MIFI or whatever, but I don't feel like shelling out $25 per month for "30 days' access for up to 2GB" with AT&T. Because of this and the fact that I have an iPhone, I just find myself leaving the iPad2 at home.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

check T mobile pre-paid mobile broadband plans (week & month).

You will need a t-mobile hotspot device and check if there is 4G coverage whre you need it.

Thanks for the tip. However this is no different from the AT&T prepaid. Hmm I guess all the carriers have a use it or lose it data plan. If only I could buy the data a la carte or if they had rollover data plans..:(
