I'm trying to consolidate all of my email to a single account, and my @icloud.com email account is the only one I haven't been able to get rid of. Apple insists on sending certain emails to this address, which means I have to keep checking it and managing the mailbox.

Apple's official documentation says "no way, can't be done"
How to change your Apple ID if it ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com

But often there are undocumented ways, such as closing an Apple ID account completely and creating a new one , that might work.

I'm wondering if I could something like that. Create a new Apple Id with the desired email address. Perhaps add that to my family, then transfer hardware and software ( Apple Care? ) to the new account. Once I am happy , then delete or stop using the old Apple Id.

Thoughts? It took me 2 years to get to this point. I had a lot of online accounts tied to many email addresses, which made managing them a nightmare. I'm loving how much easier account management is as I don't have to guess which email is associated with which account. There is only one ( ok , 2 ).

Thanks for reading.

You cannot transfer app/music/content purchases from one Apple ID to another. There's no secret workaround, and you can't change an iCloud Apple ID to a 3rd party email address. You can add the 3rd party email address to your Apple ID but the login would always be the iCloud address. You can also forward the iCloud email to another address.
