is there a way to check for spyware or any hidden apps via activity monitor?

title asks the question. all i see under "kind" in the activity monitor is intel based processes. (44 processes normal? only thing i got running is safari/activity monitor/finder right now) if i had spyware or anything like that, would it show up under the "kind" section of the CPU list?
