Seriously it's so annoying, I like using the full site.
You try to follow a link and suddently your right back to your home on a completely limited touch version.

The only way I know of is to jailbreak and install UAFaker through Cydia. It's free, and together with SBSettings (also free) you can toggle User Agent settings for Mobile Safari on the fly. ;)

One of the first things that has truly made me want to jailbreak.
May have to give it a shot.

I wish all sites that offered a mobile version also had a 'disable forever' button.

Unless you reset the cache, just tap the desktop link on the bottom to go to the full site. After that, when you go back to Facebook, it won't switch to the mobile version.

Once the page opens to log in, go to the bottom right of the page and click on the link for the full site. I just tried it and it works just fine. I was able to log in and it took me straight to the full site.

Can iPhones not run alternate browsers besides safari?

Some mobile browsers (like Skyfire) let you change the user agent at will

There are many. I like perfect browser quite a bit for things like this. I hate mobile sites when they limit functionality.

Browser and a few other browser apps in the app store let you identify as different browsers, so yeah, you can 'fake' out the site and have the full version load.

There's Opera and Atomic at the top of my head. I have no real issues with Safari so I never bothered to look for an alternative.

I've been looking at atomic browser for a while now, however I've always been wary of entering password etc on some random browser some guy made (/tinfoil hat)
Is it legit/safe?

Just downloaded it.
Wow it's good, may even be better than the mobile safari. Loving the tabs/private mode and most importantly making sites think you are using a computer.

why not to use the facebook app.

Facebook Touch is an unnecessary app. It's habit of interfering with full site activity is damned annoying. The facebook app for iPhone is limited. WT* don't they make it such that links can be posted. You can post statuses and photos. The full site is the only option but too often it switches to the useless touch which should be anhialated.
