is there a way to disable iphone backup?

i never use it and backup my own data and with 3.1.3 it seems to take too much time again. is there a way to set up the sync to skip the backup part?

backing up your data is very important. if it is taking way to long to backup, then theres a problem with your phone. you need to restore to fix it, or find the cause of the problem. happened to me.

i did a restore as new when i went to 3.1.3. my photos and video i copy over manually to my PC. everything else like email i can just sync if i restore as new. including data from apps

When it backs it up you can click the X button to cancell the backup process in itunes status bar on top.

You're not doing it right.
Don't cancell on slide to unlock on the iPhone.
On iTunes it should have a little X where it displays backing up johns iPhone for example.
