Is there a way to enable dictation while my iPhone is plugged into my car (using audio jack)?

So, unless I pull the audio cable from my phone while in my car and then press the speech-to-text option, dictation doesn't work. It worked fine on my iPhone 5S with iOS 7.1.2.

Is there something I'm missing in the settings?
