I currently have a Windows box running XP that has video inputs (RCA) that I can use to dump in VHS tapes and old home movies from an old video camcorder for editing and burning to DVD. I'm planning on getting a Macbook Pro in the near future and was wondering what the options were if I were to wait and use the Mac editing tools (iMovie and iDVD?)

I've looked at the Pinnacle video converters and similar items but they all seem to import the video as mpeg-4. My current setup imports as mpeg-2 which is what I've thought is the standard for creating DVDs to watch on my TV. I have an old copy of VideoStudio which I planned on using for the editing/burning. I suspect that the Mac tools will be easier to use though. :)

I've also ready about converting the input to DV for editing.

I think I'm reading too much on this and just confusing myself. If I need to hold onto my Windows box until I get this project done, then that's what I'll do but I'd prefer a Mac solution so I can get on with the transition over to a Mac environment.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
