Like many of you I'm running Snow Leopard at the moment. I just got an SSD for my Mac Pro today, and I wanted to try and install the Lion GM on it to test it out but still keep my existing SL installation on my SATA drive.

Could I do this and is it possible to switch between the two? I'd like to make a gradual transition you see. And if so how?

Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

Sure. Just point the Lion installer to the SSD. Hold option on startup or use startup disk preferences to switch the OS.

lol thats what I did with the dev version of Lion.

First goto disk uility and make 2 partisions .
Open Lion installed and select the second partision...

Easy :)

Cheers! I don't have to run Lion on the same drive as SL, right? I can point the installation to my SSD, right?

You don't need to do any partitioning if you're installing it on another drive.

Thats not exactly true, you can only install OS X on HFS+ partitions. The OP would need to check the current file system in the Disk Utility and repartiton it if it was anything but HFS+ (with a GUID partitioning table)
