is there a way to keep iPhone 14 Pro Max's RAW permanently on in the camera app? (instead of defaulting back to off after exiting the camera app)

thanks!

Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings > Toggle on Apple ProRaw.

Once your in the camera app and have RAW selected it will stay on until you turn it off again.

the "ProRAW" preserve setting on my camera app doesn't stick. I made sure that it was turned on(green) in "Preserve Settings"... If I take pictures in RAW and go to another app(even for a few seconds), the next time I open camera app, RAW is turned off again. :(

I didn't know it was not supposed to do this until I got my second iPhone 14 Pro Max a couple of days ago. I now have two iPhone 14 Pro Max in my hand. (one with SIM card slot, which I bought from Canada last month... and a second one that I received from Apple.com(US) two days ago) The Canadian one doesn't reset the RAW setting after I close the camera app. The US one does.... I'm wondering if there's something wrong with it... or should I return it to factory default and start fresh(as a new phone) during setup?

Try a factory reset, sounds more like software than hardware at fault.

yup... that was it... I did a factory reset... started from fresh(no transfer from backup)... the RAW feature had no trouble keeping the setting.

now I just regret not buying the 1TB 14 Pro Max. (but also don't feel like waiting for another 3+ weeks) :)

shooting in pro raw is a good decision i would say. far superior to apple's current processing.

I'm a little puzzled why the RAW photos(*.dng format) out of my 14PM are somewhat small. all range from 27mb to 36mb.... aren't they supposed to be well over 70mb each?

DNG supports compression (both lossless – and lossy by the way –, though the ones on the iPhone should be lossless).

There is the halide camera app (which you can launch via a lock screen shortcut) that also sports raw photo shooting, but it’s also a pretty pricey app.

For me it really depends on the lighting conditions. i sometimes have 25-30 mb but in good lighting it can range anything from 70 to 120mb.

Do you edit through the main camera app or use lightroom?

that must be it.... most of the pics I took are in not-so-good light....

I use lightroom.... and do it while connected to my LG 65" OLED TV.... I still can't get over how god the 14PM camera is....
