The main reason I'm refraining from using keychain is I don't want it to be connected to my iPhone.

I rarely use my iPhone for anything other than paying for stuff, tracking my steps, and an occasional text and call.

If I should ever have the misfortune of losing my phone or having it stolen, I don't want my passwords compromised. Whereas that is much more unlikely to happen with my Macbook Air, which is always at home and has a much stronger password. My iPhone, on the other hand, only has a six digit pin, which from what I understand can be easily cracked. I wonder if anyone else has these concerns, and how do you deal with it? And yeah... is there a way to have the keychain only on my MBA?

Yep, you can disable iCloud Keychain in the iCloud settings of either device. This is how it used to be before that innovation was introduced some years ago.

Yes, but you don't have to use that, the default suggestion, you can choose anything you like (alpha numerical). Also, you can protect your data even with an easy passcode: If someone gives the wrong passcode ten times, all data will be erased. Basically, your iPhone is also a computer, when it comes to passcodes.

OnT: See @frou's post.
