Is there a way to NOT sync messages and photos?

is there a way to not sync photos and messages to my Apple watch? I want to use my watch for music and the health apps, I don't want it loaded up with messages and pics.

Not sure about stopping Messages from syncing, but for Photos, simply go to the Photos listing in the Watch App on your iPhone and leave it set to Mirror my iPhone, but then under Photo Syncing, select a specific album that you need to make (on your iPhone) with maybe one small image as the sole content.
