I don't have much room on my MacBook Pro, and I sync my iPad in order to get songs and my iPhoto albums/pics off my laptop to the iPad. However is there a way to prevent iTunes from transferring newly purchased or dl stuff that I made on my iPad?

For example, I am using the iTunes.app on my iPad to download some previously bought TV shows from the cloud but I don't want those to shows to transfer over to my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro when I sync. Is there a way or setting to prevent this from happening? These TV shows take up a lot of space and I'd like to keep my iTunes library on my laptop to a minimal in order to conserve space.

Yep, you can, when you plug in your iPad under the apps tab, on that page right below the sync app tab there a tab of that option. Just uncheck it, and it will not do it anymore. If I am vague, google it and you will find your answer.
