Is there a way to reset the icons in the Dock back to what it was when the OS is first installed?

Thanks

yep! either trash or drag the Dock .plist file to your desktop and then enter this code into Terminal.

Code:
killall Dock

the reason for dragging the .plist file to your desktop is if you want to go back to how your dock looked before, just drag the .plist file back to the preferences folder and replace the new .plist file that was just written then execute the Terminal command again.
