Is there a way to stop my mouse pointer from jumping around out?

Been getting this issue constantly on and off, particularly in Terminal/BBEdit/Firefox and Finder (when editing filenames)

I have no clue what causes it to happen and what causes it to stop happening. No amount of restarting the affected applications help (I imagine all apps are affected, just that the ones I don't notice don't have text insertion). Restarting the computer as a whole fixes it but I didn't spend $2000 to have to restart my computer every few hours...

You did not provide any specifics about your hardware set up nor macOS version. Looking at your signature, it’s not clear which is your $2000 computer.

Also check Safe Mode.

And are you using a built-in trackpad, Apple mouse, or 3rd party mouse?
