newstand is a app that comes with iOS5. if you were to upgrade a "2010" from iOS4 to iOS5, it will appear. There is absolutley nothing new for the "2011" model except the white color

About the buying an itouch thing, inspect teh itouch first, make sure it works, not destoryed, no sticky home button, etc. other than that, i think that is a good deal, but only if the itouch is still like new. If you get it and it is horrible, than you probably would have been better off just buying a new one.

The OP is specifically asking about the difference in the packaging between the 2010 and 2011 models. He knows that they are the same, apart from the white ones and iOS5 being pre-loaded.

however ftoak, i thank you cause i did not even notice he was talking about the packaging.
So to answer that i will say that there is no difference. They both come in teh same shape box, and teh same size. Unless you were to open it and go through teh manuals you probably will not be able to know which is the "2010" and teh "2011".

hey guys i allready found out the differences, one the new one has the a different facetime, newstand, and messages app and the old did not;):D:):apple::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

No, old ones came with 4.2.1 because the Facetime icon changed at 4.3. It was green pre 4.3 then 4.3 on it was the gray thinga migig.

The facetime icon was a software update.

Old 2010 iPod models come with iOS4, usually 4.3.5.

New 2011 models come in either black or white and will be pre installed with iOS5.

I bought a new one for Christmas, But it has the old Facetime, No newstand, or reminders, or messages. Should I bring it back for one with iOS 5? I dont want it be be slow because it doesn't come with ios 5.

Just upgrade it by yourself. The employee's won't know which ones have iOS5 and which don't.

Just connect it to your computer & iTunes and update the OS to iOS5.
