iPhone X Is there a way to temporarily deactivate password lock when driving?

My brother in law wants to be able to easily read texts and answer calls without taking his eyes off the road for quite as long.

He wants to be able to drive *AND* read his text messages and take calls, but not for too long??? Please tell me I’ve read this wrong...?

Sorry to take this a little off topic but actually this would be useful for something else - most of the time I start driving and phone is in cradle and locked.
I sometimes ask siri to give me directions to somewhere and I get the message that the phone has to be unlocked to do that!!!
Very annoying when you're driving!
