Hi. I am getting in vlogging and was interested in purchasing a gimbal. I have a Rhode VideoMic Pro Plus which I would like to use with the gimbal. I am looking at Zhiyun Smooth Q, the Zhiyun Smooth 4 and the Evo Shift 3. Is there a way to hook-up the Rhode with any of these gimbals? Or do I need something else? I am using an iPhone 8 Plus.

Thanks for your help!

You probably know this but gimbal motors are typically sized for the size and weight of the camera, and don't like much more weight or resistance to movement. So if you attach the mic to the phone and then to the gimbal and you exceed like 220 grams rating, you will get all kinds of vibrations. The mic would probably throw the CG off regardless.

If the mic is mounted separately, like to the handle, and attached to the phone via a very light and flexible cable it could work. I've seen folks use a gimbal on one end and a mic on the other end of a handle type bar. I have an EVO SS for my GoPro and it includes a short cable for this purpose. It runs from the camera to its base where you use a conventional cable to the mic.

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I know about the weight. I thought you could buy the gimbals with an attachment (like a rail- if that's what it's called) that mounts separately on the handle with a cold shoe that allows for the mic? Any brands that make these attachments?

I've used a couple Joby Pro Series Hand Grips with UltraPlates to put together handles and mounts, but I don't think they are currently sold.

Check out the Snoppa Atom. Not only can you attach an external mic but it has wireless or wired charging options for your phone. It can also balance up to 310 grams. That means you can use a phone with case and an external lens.

Mine came a few weeks ago, but I haven't been able to fully put it to the test yet. I will say i am impressed so far. Nice build quality and good controls.
