Been trying to find a Y adapter for my iPhone 8+. There are numerous listings on amazon, but I think a good deal of them use fake review spam. I've tried 2 so far, both under $10.

5 star reviews with 40+ reviews when I bought it. Get it, it doesn't work because it's "not a supported accessory." Go back and look and the listing has 2 stars with the other reviews deleted.

Come to realize that this is pretty common on amazon. Here’s an example https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Ad...077C49GMP/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 DO NOT BUY. Notice how all the reviews are recent and look at the language of them. Not very genuine.

ha ha. Not a single review from a "verified" buyer! The fake reviews on amazon are out of control. I thus only read reviews from verified buyers who actually made the purchase. These days too many 'professional" reviewers are given the product for free, and clearly these reviews are more like a sales pitch. When I write reviews, I start with I purchased this and did not receive any discount from seller.

Need to read the ads carefully. Most of the cheap ones will say that they do not work for volume control, stop/start, phone access.

That said, even though you get the incompatible device message occassionally, the inline mic controls on my earbuds work with this, $13:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TX4NNM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Heck, even Apple's own 3.5mm dongle gives me an incompatible device message from time to time.

And note, none of these, including the Belkin one (I have that as well), allow iTunes syncing: only audio, phone, and charging. And the Belkin occassionally gets "incompatible" message, occassionally isn't recognized at all (ie. Battery icon does not show charging when plugged in: need to unplug and plug back in).

ADD: as UpNorth above said, need to focus on the verified buyer reviews.
