I have an iPhone 13, and I am generally happy with it. I have replaced the battery once, but that is to be expected after I used it for 3 years.

I was waiting to see the new 17's but I am underwhelmed.

I feel like I should buy a new phone after using this one for 4 years, but the one I have is still good.

I was waiting to see the new ones because Apple was saying so much about its upcoming AI features, but these don't do anything special with AI. I don't even understand the advantage of AI with any phone. If I use chat gpt, what does a phone have to do with it?

The new phones have a faster processor, but any gains would be marginal. And not recognizable.

The stronger glass would be nice, but I use an adhesive cover anyhow.

However, it would be nice to have a slightly larger phone

I don't use my camera nearly as often as others, but I can see the benefit of the nicer camera lens and the improved zoom.

But a new one would be at least $799 and I probably won't get $150 for my trade in, if I recall the value of my last trade in.

Am I missing anything related to the new phones that might justify getting a new one?

Thanks

I don't justify a purchase of something I want to anyone (except to my wife on large purchases). I just get it because I want it.

Likewise, no one should be pressured into justifying getting something they DON'T want. Sounds like the new phone has some features you like, but they aren't enough to make you WANT it. Otherwise, you'd find ways to justify getting it to yourself.

If the tool you have is doing the job, based on how you use that tool, then why get a new tool that does…the same job? The only thing you're going to be buying is that 'new car' feeling. Is that worth the price?

Not at the new price of $799, but if I wait another year, I won't get anything for a trade in.
Maybe it will be an early Christmas present to myself.

Right now Apple is offering the most trade-in value towards a new phone. The offer will go down in value at any time.

My comment was based on the fact that you appear to be searching for reasons to get a new phone. If you have to rationalize that hard, that means you may want to wait until you are sure of what you want / need to do. Only you know what is truly best for the iPhone use experience and finance.
