IS there an app to control apartment garage doors?

Not sure if this is even possible but we are given a remote control that opens the gates is there any way i can program the remote control into an app or something that would control the gates? Not sure what type of system this works on? Any help appreciated.
Also is there any alarm system that uses phones to unlock them? don't need remote start at all just unlock lock system.

The gates are probably RF based, so without some sort of add on for the phone its probably not feasible. Car systems can be phone based. For instance, I have OnStar and I can do everything from the phone.
