I need an app that will run 24/7 in the background and regularly (perhaps once a minute) check the status of my internet connection, logging all instances when the connection is down (this is to give me some ammunition to use against my ISP). Does anyone know of such a thing for the Mac?

couldn't you just write a simple shell script to do a ping to say www.google.com for 5 counts logging the output and then quit? Then you could run this out of Cron every minute.

I'm sure that if I actually knew the first thing about programming, that would be easy...

I also need this for the same reason. I'm stuck in a two-year contract with my ISP. The connection is terrible, it's hindering my workflow and I want out.

I have Dropbox running in the background and I see the icon go dim whenever I lose my connection. So there must be some way to log just a disconnection without having to pin Google every 5 sec.
