is there any accessory that can help take steady picture/video?

I know that tripod is a very common and cheap solution that has existed for a long time but when I ask this question I don't want to use a tripod, because it's not convenient to carry around and set up. Is there any new accessory that is less messy than a tripod but can be used to help taking steady picture and video?

Thinking the same as you. Just found out about Pocket Tripod (google it), stores like a credit card and folds out. Looking around for user feedback on tripods and saw this post from a few months ago.
