Is there any point to buying a 60W charger?

They're the same price as the 85W ones. Even if your laptop is made for 60W, the 85W chargers work just as well from what I read since they'd only supply 60W. The same isn't true for a 60W charger with a 85W laptop. So it'd make more sense to always buy a 85W for the sake of future proofing unless I'm missing something.

Your assumptions are correct. The 85W charger will work just fine.
