Other Is there any reason at all to hold onto my AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan?

I currently pay $90 a month for my AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan. My wife pays $60 for a basic Sprint plan, so $150 for both. For $170 (just $20 more) it looks like I could have 4 lines (will add my mom and dad) and still have unlimited data, free Netflix, free Wi-Fi on flights, and most importantly, 20GB of hotspot.

Is there any reason to hold on to my AT&T plan? The only benefit is that my employee discount is eligible with the grandfathered plan but not any of the new AT&T or Verizon Unlimited plans. So if I move to another AT&T or Verizon plan, it doesn't make sense. But it does seem to make sense to switch to T-Mobile which is even cheaper without an employee discount.

I have the same plan, and I’m evaluating the same thing; however, I’d be going to another single line plan, and the options don’t seem great for my case. I do go over 23gb every month, and my speeds haven’t been slowed to any degree that I can tell. I do wonder if they’ll throttle the new plans, but people seem to have no speed issues with the new plans from what I’ve seen in the forum comments.

with the introduction of HBO Max, I'm leaning toward dropping my iPhone unlimited grandfather plan. currently paying $100/mo. i have a school discount in place of -18.

i'm currently paying $6 in fees/surcharges, so $85 for unlimited elite + $6 fees = $91. the school discount would be -10, so 81. i signed up for hbo max at 12/mo so that's a combined 112/mo vs 81, so a savings monthly of $31.

according to the at&t site, i've been averaging 3.9GB/mo since Jan 2019. my high months were april & november 2019 with 6.2GB each. i'm not sure what faster data (5G) would do for me as far as total consumption goes. my main usage is browsing and maybe streaming apple music 2nd.

any thoughts? this is the original unlimited data plan that has been increased bit by bit over time. if my job comes back, planning on a new iphone in the fall as well.

I kicked AT&T to the curb 4 years ago after 23 years. They would not let me have North America roaming with my unlimited, so I tried T-Mobile. Have unlimited talk, text, 4G LTE, 3G Hotspot (didn't know what hotspot was with AT&T),unlimited talk & text Canada & Mexico, unlimited international texting from home, taxes and fees included for $50

Dropped Direct TV beginning of the year.

I dunno if you've switched carriers yet but it looks like AT&T has the Unlimited Elite plan (with HBO) for $160/4 lines with employee discount. Gives you 5G access, 100GB high speed data and 30GB hotspot per line.

I have up my last grandfathered plan a while ago and went with 5 lines of unlimited extra. I just saw no point in keeping them seeing how it would hinder upgrades which I do a lot at the end of the year. I don’t really care about the hotspot feature as I have a plethora of hotspots with AT&T, Verizon and sprint. I still have grandfathered plans from other carriers as well that I have no reason to give up atm.

I would be interested in this plan. What do you mean by employee discount? Is this something that is available to the public or is it only for ATT employeees?

Not really if you want the best service. I guess it’s more important to me because I travel so far everyday. I can tell you all those listed suck in overall comparison to Verizon.

I have Verizon unlimited and it’s right around 100. I’ve only had it for about 3-4 years have the plans all changed that much since then?

for all i know, its equivalent to the highest tier verizon offers right now and then some. like the 90 dollar plan, the grandfather plan might come in handy when 5g becomes full swing? not sure, right now i have the sim in a jetpack for my office.

I looked up my organization and it doesn't look like the unlimited plans qualify for the FAN discount. Am I missing something here?

It's a recent development iirc, and it only applies to the most expensive Unlimited Elite plan ($10/line access fee discount).

I was looking at this also. It looked like to get the employee discount you would be required to use stream saver. What is point havI got HD Elite plan with HBO and get video throttled.

Yeah, they wouldn't allow me to add my son to my account so I went with Verizon, added two lines and cut my monthly fees. FU AT&T!

Speaking towards some of the additional discounts they are giving. Like the signature or employee discount. If you take the discount, AT&T will cut it down to standard definition even on the elite plan.

I actually dumped our grandfathered unlimited data plan for the Elite plan today. You just need to go into your account online and then stream saver off.
