is there any recent good hard drive reviews?

i haven't been updated on hardware for awhile now. i am planning to upgrade my whole home system, where storage is very important.
especially with the new perpendicular technology, i would like to read more about it before making final purchase decision because i will buy at least 1.5 to 2TB worth of storage, with the intention of using for at least 5 years before the next upgrade.

I don't like external hard drives of the shelf as I don't trust them - itø's only the design you pay for (cough lacie) and some crappy 2 year or 1 year limited liability hard drive.

Other than that I just bought a Seagate Barracuda 7200,10 750GB SATAII HD and its great (698GB of formated data available) with my Media Stack v3 FW800 and eSata

The 1TB Hitachi are more expensive at the moment....

i'm taling about both int and ext hard-drives.
the internals will be put in the Mac Pro and external will be data storage, LAN and WAN accessible.
at this big of a upgrade, im less price sensitive than normal.
i concern more about quality and reliability

These charts are extremely useful when choosing a hard drive. It consists of quite a thorough list of hard drives. You can compare two hard drives against each other and see how they compare against other hard drives, as well. When using this list make sure to check the ENTIRE model number.

There are also updates to lines that do not show up in the Hard Disk Guide, hence the importance of checking entire model numbers. I was looking at the Hitachi T7k500 HDT725032VLA380 320GB SATA II hard drive that got really high marks the the hard disk charts compared to other hard drives. Then I ended up getting the T7K500 HDT725032VLA360 it was nearly identical in the technologies incorporated in the previous model rated on TomsHardware; Native Command Queing, Perpindicular Recording, Low Surface Temps. The only difference between the two is that the new one I got had a higher disk cache 16MB versus 8MB.
