I used to use insomniax on my mid 2009 and it worked perfectly.

I've tried that and caffeine on my 2011 and they both aren't working. Any ideas?

There may be software available to do that, but the only method I know of is by using an external monitor.

Anyway without a display?

Like I said, I used to do it on my 2009 MBP with the programs mentioned in the first post. I'm not sure why they don't work on the 2011.

Anybody else in the same boat?

Well, I can confirm it doesn't work for me. I've tried Apple's instructions on enabling clamshell mode and all that happened was the Mac went to sleep and never woke up.
