Is there any way to test "Back To My Mac" from one location?

Hi,

I really like the idea of "Back To My Mac" and would like to try it out. (yes I know there are other ways of doing it and some people think it might be insecure)..

The problem is, how do I know its working before leaving.. I can't see any kind of status or report so I would like to know if there is a way to test it from home?
